In water supply system, when pimp suddenly starts or stops and valve sudden opens and closes, all three will result in sudden change of flow velocity and pressure in pipeline. The high pressure shock out harsh noise, or even mare serious, cracking of pipeline. And then pipeline will lose effect, this is just water hammer. The main cause of this is the incompressibility and motion inertia of fluid and the elasticity shrinkage of pipeline materials.
